Queen Elizabeth II, one of the longest reigning monarchs in British history, died at 96 years old in Scotland. She came to the throne in 1952. Elizabeth II was the only living queen that many Britons had ever known. The death of Queen Elizabeth II has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

At the age of 25, she ascended to the throne in 1952 and reigned for 70 years. When the Second World War was still going on, Princess Elizabeth made her first speech to the country, stating that it would be up to the young people of today to “make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place” after peace had been restored. She enlisted in the Auxiliary Territorial Service, becoming the first woman in the Royal Family to serve in the military full-time. She appeared with her family and Winston Churchill on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on the day when Europe had won.

Personal Anecdote:

She wed prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947, creating a relationship that lasted 73 years and helping to overcome the post-war doldrums of austerity. Philip, a former Greek royal, renounced his Greek nationality in order to become a British subject. He has simply been my pillar of support throughout the years.

Elizabeth’s father George VI passed in 1952. The coronation of her placed the next year. The following year she had to deal with the loss of prince Philips’s death. Her longtime partner passed away at age 99, in 2021. Despite having mobility limitations, the queen carried out her official obligations when she celebrated the 70th year of her reign in 2022 at the Platinum Jubilee.

Her four children, eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren are still alive. She was quite vivacious and acts as a devoted parent and leader for her family. For the rest of their life, she is a role model.
